Case study: Key Opinion Leader indentification tool

Client

—*

Brief

Provide a tool that will allow Key Opinion Leader data to be entered by users, evaluated by the software and presented as ranked KOL data. Provide data exports from the system to be used in a variety of formats.

Approach

A two-tier application was developed, a middleware intranet application that sits within the client’s network; the exported data from this is then delivered via a Flash based CDRom.

Outcome

The project was delivered successfully and has been adapted for three different clients’ requirements to date. The cross-platform scalability of having the system export data via XML means that the deliverable to the client can be presented in a scalable range of formats. Current systems to date have used a snap shot of data method of delivery, providing a number of benefits. The client does not have access to the live data, and pays on-demand every time they need a new CD-Rom. Another option for delivery is to host a read only version of the internal tool on a website, and sell user accounts with varying access levels. The major benefit to the client is that they have instant access to KOL data whenever they might need it. This in turn may present a higher perceived value of the application to the client. The revenue generated by this solution may prove to be greater than a CD-based version; if a monthly fee system is introduced for access to the system, the client will be paying a rolling fee whether they are accessing the data or not, rather than a one-off fee when they need an XML cut. There are also no production, replication and shipping costs in this version that are associated with CD-Rom production.
